The community took the name from the Loxahatchee River that is located within the Indian Trails Improvement District. It was part of the two million acres that Southern States Land and Timber Company for 25 cents an acres in the early 1900’s. In 1917 the company was inspired to build a farming community and developed Loxahatchee Farms. The community was connected to West Palm Beach by a road that paralleled the West Palm Beach Canal. Loxahatchee was developed as a residential community and incorporated in 2006 and became Palm Beach County’s 38th municipality. The community adopted the motto : “Love it and Leave it Alone.”
The community is served by the School District of Palm Beach County and operates a tri-level educational system with elementary, middle and high schools. The school system is one of the largest in the state and operates more than 200 schools with some located right in Loxahatchee. The schools within the community are some of the best in the district. Students score very high on state mandated testing and prepare students for college and careers in the business and technical fields.
